Questions compliance teams ask first.
- What does Firmwatcher do?
- Firmwatcher monitors the FCA Financial Services Register for the firms and individuals on your watchlist. It checks the register every morning and alerts your compliance team, by email and in the app, when a new requirement or disciplinary action appears – a fine, public censure, prohibition order, decision notice or Upper Tribunal outcome – so you find out within a day rather than at your next periodic review.
- How often do you check the FCA register?
- Every morning, from 06:00 UTC, for every firm and individual on your watchlist. A requirement, disciplinary entry or role change we have not seen before raises an alert. We also read FCA announcements and Upper Tribunal decisions every hour, so a fine, ban or censure against something on your watchlist usually reaches you within the hour of the FCA announcing it.
- What do you monitor?
- New entries on a firm's register record: requirements (VREQs, OIREQs, financial promotion requirements) and disciplinary history – fines, public censures, prohibition orders, variations or cancellations of permission, decision notices and Upper Tribunal outcomes. FCA announcements are read hourly, so a new fine or ban usually reaches you within the hour. For individuals you monitor: changes to their roles (controlled functions) and disciplinary action. We also show each firm's register status, refreshed daily, but a change of status does not raise an alert on its own. See what we check.
- Can I monitor individuals as well as firms?
- Yes. Add senior managers, directors and other approved people by name or IRN. Firmwatcher checks them every morning and alerts you to new fines, public censures, prohibition orders, decision notices and Upper Tribunal outcomes. Role changes are emailed. Each person links to the firms they hold roles at, and watched firms show their Companies House record. See individual monitoring.
- Do you show Companies House information?
- Yes. For each firm the FCA register links to a Companies House number, the firm's page shows its Companies House record next to the register entries: company status (including a proposal to strike off, liquidation or administration), next accounts and confirmation statement due dates – flagged when overdue – current directors and officers, people with significant control, recent filings and any insolvency history. It is refreshed every morning. It is there for context: a change at Companies House does not raise an alert.
- Can I monitor appointed representatives and their principal firms?
- You can add an appointed representative's FRN, and its principal's, to your watchlist, and each is checked every morning for new requirements and disciplinary action. Firmwatcher does not track the appointment itself, so it will not tell you when a principal appoints or ends an appointed representative – check the register for that.
- How do I add the firms I want to watch?
- Search the register and add firms by name or FRN, and individuals by name or IRN – or send us your list and we'll load it for you. There is no integration work, and a firm's existing requirements and disciplinary history appear as soon as you add it.
- How is this different from checking the FCA register myself?
- Manual checks tend to happen monthly or quarterly, leaving a gap in which a counterparty can be fined, censured or made subject to a requirement without anyone noticing. Firmwatcher checks every morning, tells you what is new, and records in an audit trail who acknowledged each alert, when and why. See how the approaches compare.
- How much does Firmwatcher cost?
- You can start a 14-day trial with no credit card. We're agreeing pricing with early customers – book a walkthrough and we'll talk through what fits your watchlist.
- Is Firmwatcher a substitute for our own compliance controls?
- No. Firmwatcher is independent of the FCA: it monitors the public FCA register and FCA announcements and gives you a record of how your team responded. The register remains the authoritative record. Firmwatcher supports your compliance processes; it does not replace your own internal controls or judgement.
